ABOUT NATURAL THERAPY ONLINE, SYDNEY
Hi I am Amanda. I started out in London as an Aromatherapist with no clue about running a business or marketing! However, I knew I wanted to work as a holistic therapist, so I didn't let that stop me. After writing a business plan, I got accepted into a local government program which included marketing and business mentorship and won a grant to help start my new business.
I went on to qualify as a Reflexologist, and as a Natural Beauty Therapist and started teaching natural beauty workshops. My natural beauty treatments and workshops were unique at the time - I started to get noticed and was featured in the media multiple times. |
I then developed a natural skin care range, with a colleague Julie Lacey using organic ingredients and aromatherapy oils which we continued to sell for a number of years via health food stores and yoga centres. I was then approached by Element Publishing to write a book and 6 months later Natural Beauty, A Step-by-Step Guide was being sold in the UK. It was then published in Europe, America, and Australia.
The more I worked with Reflexology clients I became amazed by the way it could stimulate a change in the body and my Reflexology work developed in to assisting with pregnancy and in particular with women who had gone past their due date. The treatments helped in reducing the anxiety of giving birth and by working on certain reflexology points helped the body to 'let go'. I worked in the complementary health industry in London for 10 years - a profession that reflected my core values and the way I wanted to live my life. However, it didn't take long to understand the realities of trying to build and run a practice - it wasn't a profession that you could give unlimited treatments each day as working with clients so closely was demanding physically, emotionally and spiritually. Diversifying to earn an income from different but related sources was a valuable approach and one I would advise. |
I moved to Sydney in 2002 and had to start all over again! While I began to build my practice again, I wanted to do something else that incorporated holistic treatments so I started an events business that specialised in organising pampering hen’s parties, girl’s days out and hens weekends whereby the whole service travelled to the venue.
There were a number of pampering packages that included a range of holistic treatments, belly and bollywood dancing, henna tattoos, footbaths, footscrubs and natural beauty workshops. |
I engaged a team of therapists and dance instructors to work with me and I had my first experience building a website to promote my business, Pampered Hens.
At the time there were no other companies in Sydney offering an all-inclusive mobile pampering service, so my business took off. With the combination of a unique idea and my persistent promotion, the business was featured on Channel 7's Sydney Weekender, The Getaway Program & Channel 9's Body & Soul'. A few years later, another business even copied the business idea! |
I wanted to learn more. I studied a Diploma of Marketing and decided to take a full-time marketing job. I worked my way up to Marketing Manager for a Sydney based start-up company which included online wine retail, wine storage, logistics, wine and food events. My task was to help launch and build the various businesses in Australia, UK, and Hong Kong. I got involved in every part of marketing from strategy through to day to day tasks. I took a great interest in learning SEO and how to structure a website to help rank it higher in google.
8 years passed and I was living quite a different life, feeling I was losing the sense of who I was and not sure if the corporate life was for me. |
I left and continued working in marketing, this time as a freelancer and with small businesses - planning and advising on web design, on-page SEO, marketing strategy and day to day marketing tasks such as copywriting, email design and social media.
However, it wasn't until after losing all my marketing contracts due to Covid, I figured out what the next step was. I wanted to return to the core-values that took me down the path to becoming a therapist in the first place, and work in a more holistic environment and with therapists and like minded businesses again. Thus Natural Therapy Online was born. |
